Alma Singer

BritishBritish
, b. 1986

Alma Singer is the artistic alias of Cambridge-based artist Carla Nizzola. Her work is a playfully subversive exploration of value, identity, art, and female sexuality. Adopting a pseudonym allows Carla to push past the personal insecurities that come with exhibiting her art, and gives her the freedom to express sides of herself that might otherwise remain unseen. Alma’s practice is rooted in humour, honesty, and self-awareness. Her work often pokes fun at the things we all tend to take too seriously, combining text and imagery in a deliberately naïve visual language that she describes, with characteristic irony, as “rubbish.” With a dry wit and unflinching realism, Alma Singer aims to create work that resonates — sparking connection, reflection, and the occasional smirk.
