Anthony White

Anthony White lives and works in Paris, France. His multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, collage, and printmaking, exploring the intersection of contemporary and historical societal issues and their relationship to the production and circulation of images. Grounded in extensive research, his approach to painting combines conceptual inquiry with a heightened awareness of surface, materiality, and the physical presence of the found object.White’s recent research has focused on the phenomenon of empire, particularly the Roman Empire and its influence on the French Republic. This forms part of a broader investigation into the ways empires construct, shape, and disseminate narratives in order to establish, legitimise, and perpetuate ideology. His work examines how historical imagery, symbols, and cultural memory are continually repurposed within contemporary visual culture.Over the past decade, White has exhibited internationally, with solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne, Paris, and Hong Kong. His work has also been included in numerous curated group exhibitions dedicated to contemporary painting in Sydney, London, Hong Kong, Paris, and Brisbane. In 2007, he was awarded the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, enabling him to further develop his practice internationally.White has participated in international artist residency programmes in Paris, Leipzig, Vermont, and Latvia, working across both art-centre and museum contexts. His work is held in significant public and private collections internationally, including the Mark Rothko Art Centre in Latvia, Soho House London, and Tweed Regional Gallery in Tweed Heads, Australia.
