Anton Langreiter

Anton Langreiter is a contemporary artist based in Sydney, Australia, known for his distinctive hand-tufted wool artworks. Working at the intersection of fine art, textile practice and contemporary visual culture, Langreiter transforms wool into richly textured wall-mounted compositions characterized by bold forms, simplified figures and strong graphic imagery.Much of Langreiter’s work draws inspiration from sport, recreation and everyday moments. His ongoing Players Collection presents scenes and characters associated with activities such as golf, tennis, motorsport, swimming, surfing and football, translating familiar imagery into tactile compositions that combine the visual language of painting and illustration with the physical qualities of textile art.Each of Langreiter’s original works is individually designed and hand-tufted in wool before being stretched and custom framed for display. Many are produced as unique, one-of-one pieces. Works including Senna, The Marathon, Sink or Swim and Cutting Lines demonstrate his recognizable approach to narrative imagery and material experimentation. Several works from the Players Collection have also been publicly displayed in Sydney’s Circular Quay.Alongside his original textile pieces, Langreiter produces limited-edition fine-art prints based on selected compositions. These editions are printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag and extend the imagery of his textile works into a traditional two-dimensional format.
