Born in Seoul in 1985, GaHee Park grew up in a strict, conservative Catholic family, where topics like sex and sexuality were taboo—both within her household and in the broader society. Her move to the United States in the late 2000s to pursue graduate studies at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia marked a turning point. There, she experienced a sense of newfound freedom, which allowed her to challenge and deconstruct traditional views on the female body, gender roles, pleasure, and eroticism through her painting-driven practice.
