Idris Khan is a London-based artist renowned for his emotionally charged, minimalist photographs, videos, and sculptures. His work, influenced by diverse cultural sources such as literature, music, and religion, blends abstraction and figuration to explore themes of history and the collapse of time. Khan often uses photomechanical reproduction to create meticulously layered images. Expanding into sculpture, he uses materials like steel and stone, sandblasting surfaces with cultural templates. His notable commissions include works for the British Museum and the Wahat Al Karama memorial in Abu Dhabi. Khan's work is held in major collections worldwide, including the Guggenheim, Tate, and SFMOMA. In 2017, he was appointed an OBE for services to art.
