Pacita Abad (1946–2004) was a Filipino Modern painter known for her innovative and experimental approach to art. Born in Basco, Batanes, she studied at the Corcoran School of Art and the Art Students League. Abad’s extensive travels to over 80 countries deeply influenced her work, which evolved from figurative pieces addressing social issues to vibrant, abstract mixed-media artworks. She developed a unique technique called trapunto painting, where she stitched and stuffed her canvases to create a sculptural effect. Known for her prolific output, Abad created over 3,500 works and completed significant projects, including the "Pacita’s Painted Bridge" in Singapore. Her work is housed in collections worldwide. Abad died in 2004 at 58.
