Todd White

Todd White is an American contemporary artist known for his distinctive figurative paintings exploring human behaviour, social interaction, and the subtle dynamics of everyday life. Characterised by elongated figures, exaggerated features, expressive hands, and richly textured surfaces, White’s work often depicts intimate scenes set in restaurants, bars, and social gatherings. Drawing on his instinct for people-watching, he uses body language, gesture, and expression to reveal the personalities and unspoken relationships of his subjects.Born in Texas, White moved to Hollywood in his twenties, where he worked in animation and was part of the creative team behind SpongeBob SquarePants. His experience developing animated characters helped shape the narrative quality and instantly recognisable visual language of his later paintings. White begins each work by imagining the personalities and stories of his subjects, reducing the composition to details that contribute directly to the scene.White was selected as an official artist for the 2007 GRAMMY Awards and was later commissioned by Warner Bros. for an exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. He has also collaborated with Coca-Cola and, in 2011, received the Diana Princess of Wales Gold Medal following his donation of a portrait to the Diana Award charity. His work has developed an international collector base and is exhibited and distributed through galleries across the United States, Europe, and Canada.
