Candida Höfer (b. 1944, Eberswalde) is a prominent German photographer of the Düsseldorf School, known for large-format colour images of libraries, museums, palaces and theatres captured with exacting composition and available light. Her serene interiors—typically devoid of people—reveal the social function, order and memory of public spaces. She is based in Cologne.
