Jeff Wall was born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1946 and is known for his large-scale photographic tableaux displayed as back-lit transparencies. Combining the visual language of cinema and painting, his staged yet realistic images examine contemporary urban life and the artifice of representation. Wall’s practice bridges conceptual art and photographic precision, employing controlled lighting, digital manipulation and theatrical composition to reveal the constructed nature of visual reality. His work redefined the boundaries of photography as a fine art medium.
