Nan Goldin’s raw, tender photographs chronicle the fleeting, often turbulent beauty of intimate, bohemian life. Goldin’s most iconic work, The Ballad of Sexual Dependency (1985), is a deeply personal slideshow of nearly 700 photographs documenting her life in New York during the 1970s and ’80s. Through these snapshots, lovers embrace, drag queens revel, and the shadow of the AIDS crisis looms, revealing a community bound by both joy and tragedy. In 2017, she extended her activism beyond the lens by founding P.A.I.N.
