Born in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1981, New York-based artist Amy Lincoln creates surreal, dreamlike scenes that blend imagined landscapes, atmospheric phenomena, and vibrant, fantastical foliage. Drawing inspiration from her childhood in Oregon, where she frequently visited beaches beneath overcast skies, Lincoln’s paintings explore the nuances of light reflection and refraction. Lincoln earned her MFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in 2006 and her BA from the University of California, Davis, in 2003. Her work has been showcased in solo exhibitions at Sperone Westwater (2024, 2023, 2021), Taymour Grahne Projects in London (2022), Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York (2018, 2016), and Monya Rowe Gallery in Saint Augustine, FL (2016), among others. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including at Johansson Projects in Oakland, CA (2024), the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio (2023), The Hole in New York (2022), Sargent’s Daughters in New York (2018), and Regina Rex in New York (2017). Her work has also been shown internationally at Galerie Valerie Bach in Brussels, Belgium (2020), and Taymour Grahne Projects in London (2021, 2022). Lincoln has received residencies at prestigious programs such as the Wave Hill Winter Workspace, the Inside Out Art Museum Residency in Beijing, and a Swing Space residency with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
