Antoine Cordet

Antoine Cordet is a French contemporary painter who lives and works in Paris. Best known for his psychologically charged portraits, Cordet combines carefully rendered human figures with translucent washes, abstract lines, and fluid gestures of colour. His paintings occupy a space between realism and abstraction, presenting faces that appear suspended in time, partially dissolving into their surroundings.Working with restrained, often pale palettes, Cordet allows areas of exposed canvas, staining, and apparently unfinished brushwork to interrupt the recognizable features of his subjects. These contrasting approaches create a sense of fragility and emotional distance while exploring identity, introspection, memory, and the difficulty of fully representing another person. His contemplative figures frequently carry echoes of historical portraiture, yet their fragmented surfaces place them firmly within contemporary painting.Cordet has presented numerous solo exhibitions at Galerie Flash in Munich, including Vanishing Point, One Venus, Free Radicals, The Seventh Gesture, Mare Imbrium, The Fire, Distance, and Friends with a Cliff. His work has also appeared in international exhibitions and art fairs with Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami, as well as SHOWstudio Gallery’s 100 Women exhibition in London. He received an award from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2014, and his paintings have been featured in art publications and used as covers for novels published in France, Spain, and Austria. Cordet is represented by Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami.
