Chantal Joffe (b. 1969, St Albans, Vermont; based in London) is a British painter celebrated for expressive, psychologically acute portraits of women, children and those close to her. Working at often large scale, she uses vigorous, economical brushwork to explore memory, motherhood and the passage of time; recent shows with Victoria Miro have centred on family history.
