Cody Hudson’s vividly colored paintings, drawings, and steel sculptures investigate the emotional resonance of shape and color. His crisp, hard-edged forms recall the playful cut-paper compositions of Henri Matisse, sometimes suggesting botanical shapes or vessel-like forms while often remaining deliberately open to interpretation.Hudson’s practice spans a wide range of scales and formats—from intimate prints to large-scale murals—including a major public commission for the Chicago Transit Authority’s 2006 Arts in Transit program. In 2007, he held his first solo museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, where his work was framed in dialogue with skateboarding and other aspects of contemporary youth culture.A lifelong participant in punk and zine culture, Hudson brings a DIY sensibility to his art through bold graphic shapes and fluid, intuitive compositions. Beyond his studio practice, he is also the founder of Struggle Inc., a graphic design studio that has collaborated with brands such as Nike and Stüssy.
