Alex “Defer” Kizu is a pioneering figure in the first generation of Los Angeles graffiti writers. Recognized for his intricate letterforms and highly distinctive visual language, he describes his practice as a form of “spiritual language.” His paintings explore the expressive possibilities of line, color, rhythm, and repetition while maintaining a strong connection to graffiti culture and the urban landscape.Blurring the boundaries between street art and contemporary fine art, Defer combines typographic elements, cultural references, gestural abstraction, and complex patterning to create dense, visually dynamic compositions.
