Enoc Perez

Enoc Perez’s vibrantly colored paintings of nudes, still lifes, and modernist architectural landmarks—including the Seagram Building and Lever House—celebrate art’s capacity for beauty and visual pleasure while evoking a powerful sense of nostalgia. Drawing inspiration from Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg and their experiments with unconventional methods of mark-making, Perez developed a distinctive process that recalls commercial color printing. For each composition, he creates separate preparatory drawings for individual colors, then uses these sheets to transfer layers of oil paint onto the canvas. The resulting works combine the immediacy of printmaking with the tactile qualities of painting, lending familiar subjects a seductive, dreamlike presence.
