Faye Whittaker is a contemporary British artist whose work is deeply rooted in nostalgia, charm, and coastal life. Born and raised in the northern seaside town of Southport, she was surrounded by the town’s distinctive Edwardian character—an influence that would later become central to her artistic identity. After graduating from art college, Faye spent five formative years in the South of France. There, she immersed herself in the landscapes and light that inspired many of her artistic heroes, including Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, and Pablo Picasso. During this time, she was fortunate to form a close friendship with her neighbour and mentor, Dominique Theovin, who was also Picasso’s godson—an experience that further enriched her artistic development.Upon returning to England, Faye settled in Brighton, drawn by its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere and rich artistic heritage. Inspired by her surroundings and her experiences abroad, she began to develop her signature style—capturing lively seaside scenes filled with children dressed in cheerful Edwardian costume. Her work quickly gained popularity for its warmth, detail, and nostalgic appeal. This success led to the creation of her iconic All Our Yesterdays collection, which became a household name and a major success in the licensing world, appearing on a wide range of products from greeting cards to textiles.Today, Faye Whittaker is recognised as one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists, celebrated for her ability to blend historical charm with timeless storytelling.
