Gina Beavers

AmericanAmerican
, b. 1974
Gina Beavers transforms the slick surfaces of the internet into tactile, high-relief paintings. Mining images from social media and beyond, she recreates bodybuilder selfies, makeup tutorials, and hyper-stylized food photography as thickly encrusted, three-dimensional works. Using dense acrylic brushstrokes and foam on linen mounted to panel, Beavers builds her compositions outward, turning digital flatness into sculptural form.At the core of her practice is a sustained inquiry into the curation, performance, and artifice that shape contemporary visual culture. Beavers earned her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited internationally, including in New York, Berlin, Los Angeles, London, Stockholm, Seoul, and Milan. Her work is held in major institutional collections such as the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
