Hendrik Kerstens is a Dutch photographer (b. 1956, The Hague) known for a decades-long series of portraits of his daughter, Paula, which echo the light, poise and austerity of Dutch Golden Age painting while using everyday materials as contemporary headdresses. Self-taught, he turned to photography in 1995 and developed a staged, painterly approach that merges art-historical references with modern life.
