Ines Fernandez de Cordova

Ines Fernandez de Cordova (b. 1992) is a Bolivian-Slovenian artist and printmaker born in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. Based in London since 2011, she works across printmaking, sculpture, photography and drawing, exploring the relationship between objects, space, memory and the passage of time. Sculpture forms the foundation of much of Fernandez de Cordova’s practice. She creates abstract objects in materials such as plaster and jesmonite, which are then arranged, photographed and translated into prints. Through repetition, layering, mirroring and sequence, these forms are transformed into ambiguous still-life compositions that suggest movement and narrative while encouraging viewers to draw on their own memories and associations. Her printmaking practice incorporates techniques including photopolymer etching, screenprinting, drypoint, monoprinting and traditional intaglio processes.Fernandez de Cordova studied at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, completing a BA (Hons) in Illustration in 2015 and an MA in Visual Arts: Printmaking in 2017. Alongside developing her own practice, she has worked professionally as a printer for Jealous Print Studios and British artist Anita Klein. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in London and internationally, including exhibitions at Blue Shop Cottage and Jealous Gallery. Through the combination of traditional printmaking processes with photography and sculptural experimentation, Fernandez de Cordova has developed a distinctive visual language characterised by rich textures, strong tonal contrasts and enigmatic, carefully constructed forms.
