Jacob Hashimoto

AmericanAmerican
, b. 1973
Jacob Hashimoto constructs intricate, suspended installations from unconventional materials such as bamboo-and-paper kites, enameled foam cubes, and model boats. These elements are meticulously assembled and hung from ceilings or wall-mounted supports, forming dense, fragmented compositions that evoke three-dimensional tapestries. Ranging from restrained monochromes to richly saturated color fields, his works merge the visual language of modernism with references to traditional Japanese craft.Although largely abstract, Hashimoto’s installations suggest a wide spectrum of associations—from organic formations and imagined landscapes to digital environments, cosmological systems, and art historical motifs. Often spanning entire rooms, his immersive environments invite viewers to reconsider their spatial awareness, encouraging movement and shifting perspectives within the work.Hashimoto received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. He has since exhibited internationally, with shows in cities including New York, Los Angeles, London, Brussels, Venice, and Milan.
