Jennifer Guidi creates meditative, mandala-like paintings built from layers of sand, pigment, and oil or acrylic. Pressing a dowel into the dense surfaces, she forms fields of thumbprint-like indentations that produce hypnotic, tactile abstractions. Her work draws on the legacies of American Southwest modernism, process-based Minimalism, Light and Space, and lyrical abstraction, while engaging with ideas of spirituality and ancient theories of energy and perception. In addition to her richly textured canvases, Guidi has produced monochrome works on triangular supports. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, London, Miami, and Chicago.
