

Acclaimed painter Jiab Prachakul is known for her intimate figurative compositions, which portray people with quiet sensitivity and close observational detail. Her works often focus on sitters of Asian descent, reflecting her personal interest in identity, belonging, and the experience of the Asian diaspora.Self-taught, Prachakul began painting in 2007 after visiting a David Hockney exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Her career gained major international recognition in 2020, when she won the National Portrait Gallery’s BP Portrait Award for her double portrait Night Talk (2019). The award brought her work to a wider global audience and established her as an important contemporary voice in portrait painting.Living as a Thai woman in various European cities deeply shaped Prachakul’s artistic perspective.
