Ken Nwadiogbu

NigerianNigerian
, b. 1994
Artist Ken Nwadiogbu began creating multilayered, hyperrealistic drawings as a catalyst for change within his community. Working across charcoal and pencil, as well as collage, sculpture, and performance, his practice explores Black representation, gender dynamics, and African cultural identity.Nwadiogbu has presented solo exhibitions in London and Los Angeles, and his work has been featured at leading art fairs such as 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair and ART X Lagos. Widely celebrated for his impact on the Nigerian art scene, he describes his distinctive approach as “Contemporealism”—a term he coined to articulate his fusion of contemporary materials with a hyperrealist aesthetic.Among his most recognized works are striking human silhouettes that contain meticulously rendered eyes or fragments of faces in black and white. These partially obscured visages, often layered against vivid, painterly backgrounds, evoke themes of consciousness, identity, and shared collective reality.
