Lynette Yiadom-Boakye is a London-based artist known for creating fictional figures that transcend specific time or place, drawing from a variety of sources like people, objects, memories, and photographs. Her work is characterized by its open-ended nature, allowing viewers to project their imagination. While rooted in traditional elements such as line, color, and scale, her contemporary handling of paint and subjects reflects a modern sensibility. Yiadom-Boakye also merges the visual and textual, with her titles acting as an extension of the artwork itself. Born in 1977, Yiadom-Boakye has exhibited widely in solo shows at major institutions such as Tate Britain, Moderna Museet, and the Guggenheim Bilbao. Her work is part of numerous prestigious collections, including those of the Tate and MoMA. She received the 2018 Carnegie Prize and was shortlisted for the 2013 Turner Prize.
