Mika Tajima

Mika Tajima earned her MFA from Columbia University's School of the Arts in 2003, following a BA in Fine Arts and East Asian Studies from Bryn Mawr College in 1997. Soon after completing her undergraduate studies, she joined the Post-Graduate Apprentice Program at the Fabric Workshop and Museum. In 2011, Tajima returned to FWM as an Artist-in-Residence, 14 years after her initial apprenticeship. Tajima’s work bridges complex socio-political and theoretical concepts with physical form, translating her research into sculpture, painting, and installation. Her solo exhibitions include notable venues such as The Kitchen, New York (2008); Seattle Art Museum (2011); SculptureCenter, New York (2016); and Borusan Contemporary, Istanbul (2018). In addition to her solo practice, Tajima has collaborated with artists such as Charles Atlas and New Humans in projects like The Pedestrians at South London Gallery (2011), Today is Not a Dress Rehearsal at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2009), and the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
