Miss Van

, b. 1973
A pioneering figure in contemporary street art, Miss Van (born Vanessa Alice) began developing her distinctive visual language at the age of twenty in her hometown of Toulouse, France. She is best known for her iconic poupées—sloe-eyed, full-lipped female figures rendered in a darkly burlesque style. These characters are provocative and sensual, embodying a raw, uninhibited expression of femininity and serving as intimate extensions of the artist’s inner world. Now based in Barcelona, Miss Van has largely transitioned from street interventions to a studio-based practice. This shift has allowed her work to evolve in both technique and complexity, with her poupées becoming increasingly refined through the use of new materials and painterly approaches. Her recent Ballerina series introduces figures adorned with anthropomorphic masks, drawing inspiration from vintage erotic portraiture while exploring themes of identity, desire, and personal freedom.
