Pat Riot

Pat Riot is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose work combines humor, social commentary, and visual experimentation. Often designed to provoke laughter as an immediate response, his art reveals deeper observations about consumer culture, social behavior, and the conventions that shape everyday life. Working across street art, installation, sculpture, and unconventional materials such as chewing gum, Riot creates playful yet conceptually layered works that challenge viewers to look beyond their initial impressions.Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Riot moved to Richmond, Virginia, at the age of five, where he grew up in the suburban American South. His Midwestern roots and Southern upbringing have informed his interest in the relationship between environment, experience, and individual identity.Largely self-taught, Riot also studied at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. His practice draws inspiration from daily encounters and observations as well as artists and thinkers including Henry Darger, Tim Hawkinson, and visionary designer and futurist Buckminster Fuller.Now based in Los Angeles, Pat Riot continues to develop provocative, humorous installations and objects that blur the boundaries between art and popular culture. Notable projects include The Bubblegum Show and his Lego Pot Dispensary installation, both of which reflect his distinctive approach to humor, spectacle, and cultural critique.
