Sangsoo Lee (born 1983, South Korea) is a sculptor and artist who explores the intersection between drawing and three-dimensional form. He studied sculpture at Dong-A University in Busan and earned a master’s degree at Hongik University’s Graduate School of Sculpture in Seoul.
Lee’s signature method is often described as “drawing in the air.” He begins with simple linework—often inspired by the free spontaneity of children’s sketches—and translates those lines into twisted, coiled metal or resin sculptures that float in space. His works—frequently representing animals—balance minimalism, movement and colour, using positive and negative space to evoke dynamism even in stillness.
In his practice, Lee leverages both hand drawing and digital tools: sketches are refined, modeled virtually, then fabricated into resin or stainless steel forms which are often colour-coated in pastel gradients or vivid tones. He sees his sculptures as extensions of a two-dimensional gesture, but alive in three dimensions.
His pieces have appeared in public and gallery contexts and continue to blur the boundary between drawing and sculpture, inviting viewers to engage with form, line, and presence in a lyrical way.
