Smithe One
|
Mexican artist Smithe began painting graffiti at the age of 13, initially as a form of experimentation and personal expression. Deeply influenced by vintage Mexican comics, 1950s graphic design, and classic science-fiction cinema, he developed a visual language that merges urban culture with futuristic and philosophical narratives.Entirely self-taught, Smithe has continuously evolved his practice, moving beyond traditional graffiti into a multidisciplinary body of work that includes painting, illustration, sculpture, design, and music. His work often explores themes of existentialism, human individuality, technology, and the relationship between organic life and machine systems.A recurring concept throughout his oeuvre is “defragmentation,” represented through surreal mechanical structures that reveal the internal components and emotional mechanisms powering his characters. This distinctive visual approach has become one of the defining elements of his artistic identity, combining intricate detail with bold graphic composition.Internationally recognized for his large-scale murals and studio works, Smithe has exhibited extensively across Japan, Germany, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain, the United States, and Mexico.
