Tiffany Alfonseca’s luminous, color-saturated portraits explore the layered realities of Black and Afro-Latinx identity. Based in the Bronx, the Dominican American artist draws deeply from her personal heritage, infusing her paintings and works on paper with glitter, charcoal, and richly textured surfaces. Her compositions center African diasporic subjects in moments of intimacy, stillness, and joy—offering nuanced, humanizing perspectives often absent from dominant art historical narratives.Alfonseca graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2020 and has since exhibited internationally, with presentations in London, New York, and Los Angeles. Her work has also featured in prominent benefit auctions, including the Museum of the African Diaspora’s Diaspora Unite! and ARTNOIR’s From: Friends To: Friends. Through her unguarded and multifaceted portrayals, Alfonseca challenges reductive representations of Black life, foregrounding complexity, tenderness, and self-defined identity.
