Woody De Othello

AmericanAmerican
, b. 1991
Woody De Othello transforms humble household objects into surreal clay sculptures that seem to melt, exhale, and contort into themselves. Through a distinctly contemporary approach to ceramics, he reimagines everyday fixtures—box fans, light switches, telephones—as emotive, almost anthropomorphic forms. While his work carries a playful, humorous edge, it also invites deeper reflection on the psychological weight and intimacy of domestic life.De Othello earned his MFA from the California College of the Arts and has exhibited widely in cities including New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. In addition to his sculptural practice, he creates vivid figurative portraits, often rendered in acrylic on paper, further expanding his exploration of color, form, and emotional expression.
