Vote (with Joan Cornellà)

'Vote' pairs David Shrigley with the Spanish cartoonist Joan Cornellà: two sets of eight silkscreen prints, each in an edition of 125, from DDT Store in 2022. One set is portrait and the other is landscape, and the project also produced a mixed-media sculpture in an edition of 100, 'I Got Your Face Tattooed To Remember How Much I Hate You'.

All Vote (with Joan Cornellà) Works By David Shrigley (3)

Significance & Analysis

'Vote' brought together two artists known for dark, deadpan humour through a Hong Kong publisher that had already worked with each of them. DDT Store, the online shop of AllRightsReserved, had collaborated with Cornellà since 2019, starting with his 'Selfie Gun' figure, and had released Shrigley's 'April Fool Project' in 2020 and 2021. 'Vote' took the April slot in 2022 and made it a collaboration.

An April Fools' Day launch

Shrigley described 'Vote' as "a series of artworks I worked on together with" Cornellà, with the print release made up of eight "specially selected" images. The launch played the joke out on social media. Six days before the release, Shrigley's own Instagram carried the line "David gave me his password. Thanks for strangling me!", posted as if Cornellà had taken over the account. The line is also the title of one of the eight prints, 'Thanks for Strangling Me', which sits alongside 'Every Morning I Read The Lies', 'Kiss My Ass' and 'Fart Cloud, You Will Destroy The World'. A countdown narrated by Shrigley followed, and when the prints arrived the call to buyers was "Cast your vote now!"

From prints to sculpture

In June 2022 the project had its first physical exhibition, at Void Deck in Singapore, where the prints were shown with new digital works and sculptures sold only through Void Deck, in person and online. The sculpture edition took 'Vote' off the paper, much as Shrigley's 'April Fool Project' had done with the same publisher by pairing new prints with a ceramic: 'Serpent' in 2020 and 'You Are Special' in 2021. In 2023 the April slot returned to Shrigley alone, with 'Stink', a painted ceramic perfume bottle.

At auction

Complete sets of 'Vote' have appeared at Phillips. The highest result in the five years to 2026 was $5,334 for a complete set at Phillips New York in April 2023, including buyer's premium. Later sets have sold for less in London: £3,302 in June 2024, £2,286 in January 2025 and £1,161 in an online sale in January 2026, all including premium.

What Sizes Are the Vote Prints and the Sculpture?

Each sheet in the upright set measures 46.4 x 32.4 cm, and each sheet in the horizontal set 32.5 x 46.5 cm, both on wove paper. The sculpture, 'I Got Your Face Tattooed To Remember How Much I Hate You', is in mixed media and measures 25.5 x 18 x 7.5 cm (height x width x depth).

What Does a Complete Vote Set Include?

Eight prints and a title page, issued loose in a wooden box rather than bound. The title page and each of the eight prints carry the set's edition number, written as, for example, 089/125. A set whose sheets show different numbers has been put together from more than one copy, and one without its title page or box is incomplete.

How Were the Vote Prints First Sold?

By online draw rather than on a first-come basis. Entries for the upright set opened on DDT Store on 30 March 2022 and closed on 1 April, April Fools' Day, and the sets were shipped to successful entrants from August 2022, about four months after the draw.
