All The Beyond Collection Works By Andrew Scott (6)
Significance & Analysis
This collection marks a change of direction in Scott's frame experiments. For years his characters have interacted with the frame by breaking its glass, tearing its mount or pulling at its edges. Here they leave it. "Rather than simply interacting with the frames, the characters move beyond the frame using woodcuts notched into the outer edge," he wrote at launch, after a year spent exploring the technique.
Six ways out of the frame
Each of the six works, 'Getaway', 'Hold On', 'Kick', 'Pass Through', 'Peer' and 'The Seat', takes a different route past the frame's edge. In 'Peer', Scott noted, only about a quarter of the character sits outside the frame, "but it makes such a big visual difference." 'Kick' needed its own solution: the separate wooden piece has a magnet set into it, so it can be fixed to the wall and turned to whatever angle the owner chooses. 'The Seat' began as an experiment Scott shared in June 2026 as "something a little different just for fun", one of the year's new ideas rather than a reworking of an older one.
The release
Scott introduced the works one at a time through late July and early August. Mailing-list subscribers could pre-order from 7 August, and the full collection was then on sale through Stowe Gallery for one week, from 19 to 26 August 2026.
Before and after
'The Beyond Collection' follows the 'Glass Blower' editions of June 2026, which added blown glass to the frame rather than cutting into it. Both point the same way: towards building new material onto the frame. In 'Parallel Worlds' (2025) his characters reached across two frames; in this series they reach past the outside edge instead.
