All The Frame Games Works By Andrew Scott (3)
Significance & Analysis
This is the release where Scott made playing the explicit subject of his frame experiments. "Above all else, these frame experiments have always been about play," he wrote when announcing it. "I really wanted that to come through in a literal sense with these works." Through late 2025 he had been, in his words, "focusing on childhood games a lot more and building my ideas around those", and this collection gathered the strongest of those ideas into one release.
Three games, three ways of using the frame
Like most of his work, these pieces come from the small prototypes Scott makes each week before turning the best into finished works. 'Tic Tac Toe' grew out of a shadow-box prototype he first posted in September 2025, in which paint on the glass casts a shadow that, in his words, "adds a lot of depth to the piece." 'Tug of War P. II' is a new variation on his 2024 'Tug of War', made while he was "revisiting concepts using strings and thread". 'Seesaw', a new kind of experiment for the artist, completes the set.
The release
The collection was offered first to subscribers to Stowe Gallery's mailing list as a pre-order, then went on general release at 10am EST on 4 May 2026. They are numbered limited editions rather than timed ones, and 'Tug of War P. II' is the smallest of the three, at 100 copies.
Before and after
'Tug of War P. II' looks straight back to 'Frame of Mind' (2024), which included the first 'Tug of War'. After 'The Frame Games', Scott moved from altering the frame towards adding new material to it: hand-blown glass in the 'Glass Blower' editions in June 2026, then woodcuts that extend past the frame's edge in 'The Beyond Collection' that August.
